The local American Lung Association office in Southfield has volunteer opportunities for small groups a few times a month. Typically these opportunities are in the afternoon after school, in the early evening, or sometimes a few on Saturdays - late morning/early afternoon. Your group size should be between 2-5 students per shift (larger group opportunities may be available in Mid-April).
This is perfect for students who are looking for service hours to complete their graduation or program requirements. If you would like to learn more about an upcoming opportunity, please contact us at EventsMI@lung.org or 248-784-2000 (option #4) to inquire when our flexible volunteer shifts are next.
Projects could include:
- General office support (filing, sorting, stuffing envelopes, etc.)
- Special event logistical support which may include warehouse organization, sorting and organizing supplies and more
- Making phone calls to event participants with reminder messages (phone, messaging and more will be provided)
- Helping with a current campaign project - folding shirts, packaging supplies, etc.
Many of our volunteer opportunities can accommodate differently-abled students and we encourage you to reach out to learn more. In addition, we do offer some community-based and virtual volunteer opportunities as well!

- Must be at least 12
- Most volunteer shifts are 2.5-4 hours in length.
- Please note group size flexibility. High school students volunteering at the office will not require a chaperone, but we ask for K-8 students to have a chaperone onsite. A signed parent/guardian waiver is required in advance of your volunteer shift.
