ORGANIZATION: Catholic Charities Counseling and Adoption Services, Refugee Resettlement Program

Image_202302161314

We offer education classes for our adult refugee clients, most of whom are parents. It takes a couple of weeks after their arrival to Erie to get the kids enrolled in school. If there is no one to take care of the children, this usually leaves the mother at home, not being able to take part in the ESL or Cultural Orientation sessions.

We need 1 or 2 volunteers per shift to help entertain the children so that the parents can learn!

Mission Statement

To provide counseling and adoption services and other programs that educate, affirm, and support individuals of all faiths to achieve their fullest human potential.

Description

The United Nations High Commission on Refugees defines a refugee as individuals who have fled their countries of origin and meet the United Nations' criteria of having a "well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion.

Through the USCCB and the US State Department, our agency receives approximately 300 new arrivals every year for resettlement in Erie.
