ORGANIZATION: Alpert Jewish Community Center

Work with the Long Beach Fire Department as a Fire Ambassador. This elite corps of volunteers serve as liasions between the Long Beach Fire Department and the community.

Fire Ambassadors provide Fire Safety and Prevention presentations to 3rd grade students in the Long Beach Unified School District, both in the classrom and in the "Fire Safety House".

You can also provide life saving information to the older adult population in Long Beach. as a Fire Ambassador

New volunteers will complete a training provided by the Fire Department and current Ambassadors. General meetings are held monthly and attendance is required.

Volunteers generally work 2 days per week, with all assignments being delegated at the monthly general meeting.

Before acceptance to the program, all potential volunteers must successfully complete a background check.

Mission Statement

The Alpert Jewish Community Center provides programs and services that contribute to the sound development of individuals of all ages and offers opportunities to enhance an appreciation of Jewish and Democratic values in Long Beach.

Description

The Long Beach Jewish Community Center was established in August, 1948. Expanding to meet the growth of the Center and its members, a campaign from the Jewish Federation was established in 1956 to build a new center at the present location. Ever expanding growth of the JCC resulted in the need for yet a bigger building. On September 28, 1997 the Center celebrated the first formal groundbreaking ceremony. The new Alpert Jewish Community Center on the Weinberg Jewish Federation Campus opened in December 2000.
