Join Mid Sound Fisheries, Green River Coalition, the City of Auburn, and your community members as we celebrate Earth Day by restoring the shores of the Green-Duwamish River at Fenster Park! We will be removing invasive blackberry from the shores of the Green River at Fenster Park to make a future forest to ensure salmon have a healthy habitat in the Green River for centuries to come. Once the blackberry is gone we will be able to plant native trees on the shore in the future. Trees are beneficial to us because they provide oxygen and forests for us to spend time in, but trees also help keep rivers clean, clear, and cold- all qualities that salmon need to be healthy.

The event will begin with a brief discussion that includes information about the site, the partnering organizations, why this work is important, tool use, and safety. We will provide work gloves, all instructions, and all tools. Please plan to arrive on time for the start of the event and allow extra time to find parking.

Please sign up directly with VolunteerMatch!

Email amy@midsoundfisheries.org if you have any questions.

Mission Statement

Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group works to involve local people in projects that will ensure a future for wild salmon.

Description

Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group is dedicated to helping landowners and communities protect their local fish. We practice fisheries and stream restoration in the King and Kitsap Counties in Washington State. Our service area includes the Green/Duwamish River watershed, the Lake Washington/Cedar River watershed, isolated streams flowing into Puget Sound in King County, and all watersheds in eastern Kitsap County. We use habitat restoration projects - such as streamside fencing, native tree planting, and fish passage improvements - as catalysts to building community partnerships. As one of 14 Regional Fisheries Enhancement Groups in Washington State, we are part of a coordinated effort to restore fish habitat in the state.
