June is Orca Recovery Month! Our local populations of Orcas in the Puget Sound rely almost solely on salmon for food. Restoring salmon habitat in the Pacific Northwest is a key step in helping conserve and recover salmon and Orca populations! Join Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group on the King County Parks-owned West Sammamish River Trail in Woodinville to restore Chinook salmon habitat! We are in the process of removing Himalayan blackberry from a 1200 foot stretch of river bank and mulching the site to prevent re-growth. Your help and support is so valuable and necessary to getting this work done! Upon signing up you will receive an email with information on how to access the site. If you are under 18 and attending without a parent or guardian, please also print and fill out the Youth Waiver Form attached to the confirmation email and bring it with you to the event! Important note: King County Parks requires all volunteers on county property 12 years old and over to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. We will ask for proof of vaccination at the event!

Join Mid Sound Fisheries, Green River Coalition, the City of Auburn, and your community members as we restore the shores of the Green-Duwamish River! We had such a successful planting season thanks to all of your help -- now its time to make sure our new plants get the care they need to survive. We'll be clearing blackberry from the areas around new plantings and prepping some sites for future planting! The event will begin with a brief discussion that includes information about the site, the partnering organizations, why this work is important, tool use, and safety. We will provide work gloves, all instructions, and all tools. Please plan to arrive on time for the start of the event and allow extra time to find parking. Please sign up directly with VolunteerMatch! Email erik@midsoundfisheries.org if you have any questions. Covid-19 Safety Protocol: Before arriving at the event please check your temperature. If it is above 100.4 degrees please stay home. Please stay home if you are experiencing any symptoms such as cough, sore throat, loss of taste and/or smell Masks will be worn within six feet of each other, otherwise they are optional (we will also have extra single-use masks if needed) We will maintain physical distance throughout the day. We will provide a hand washing and sanitation station on site. We will provide water, but please bring a water bottle so as to reduce our use of single-use plastics!
