Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine (LVIM) is looking for lab assistant volunteers for their clinic. Lab assistants will complete administrative and clinical tasks including organizing and managing the sampling, testing, recording, analyzing of necessary medical tests. The LVIM lab works as a team so findings will be shared between lab staff for conclusive results. Specific tasks include entering requested labs and generating labels for the phlebotomist, calling patients from the lobby and escorting them to the lab, instructing patients on the requirements of the process, performing in-house testing, properly documenting results, helping with administrative tasks as needed, and maintaining the lab cleanliness, orderliness, and supplies.
LVIM Lab Assistants are detail oriented and very organized. A volunteer in this position has accurate data entry skills and communicates in a professional and courteous manner with tact and empathy. Completion of LVIM's Biomedical Waste Training Module is required. A medical background or schooling/training is preferred but not required. This position does involve excessive standing and walking time. LVIM is asking for a commitment of 3 months with a minimum of one shift per week either 8am-12pm or 12pm-4pm on any day Monday through Friday.
Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine clinics are community based and provide free healthcare services to uninsured and medically underserved communities. LVIM is led by a few Watson Clinic physicians and the Watson Clinic Foundation and functions primarily by volunteers to meet the healthcare challenges of Lakeland's community in a different way.
