Good Day, and Happy New Year,
I hope that you are doing well. Please join the Chicago Public Schools Department of Academic Competitions for the 2025 Academic Decathlon Speech & Interview competition. This competition will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Whitney Young High School, 211 S. Laflin Street, Chicago, IL. To ensure that we have an equitable and successful competition, we need the support of volunteers. The Speech & Interview competition is a half-day event, and we need approximately 90 volunteers from 8:00 a.m. until approximately 1:00 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all volunteers. Attached is the Academic Decathlon volunteer flyer and a document outlining roles and responsibilities. Please share both with your friends and colleagues. Mission Statement
CPS Academic Decathlon develops and provides academic competition to promote multidisciplinary learning and academic excellence through teamwork among students of all scholastic levels. This program also enhances decathletes’ analytical, critical thinking, literacy, research, and leadership skills, and boosts self-confidence to help them succeed in the classroom, post-secondary, and in life.
Description
Chicago Public Schools (CPS)currently has 500 students from 50 high schools to compete in 7 academic areas: art, math, economics, music, science, langauge and literature, and super quiz. These students compete in two citywide competitions and the citywide winner then progresses to the state competition. The culminating event is the national competition where students compete against other state championship teams.
