Do you have experience working in a hospice setting? Are empathetic and compassionate words used to describe you? If so, then volunteering in our palliative care unit may be right for you.
Ideal volunteers in this role will:
- Be comfortable talking with patients and families that are experiencing grief, loss, illness, and death.
- Have the ability to listen without judgment.
- Compassion displayed during bedside manner.
- Comfortable being in the inpatient medical environment.
Volunteers are required to wear a medical face mask when in the palliative care unit. VHA Directive 1193 and VA Handbook 5019 requires that Volunteers in this role have a documented COVID-19 vaccine and Flu vaccine.
