We are looking for new volunteers to help us expand our existing packing project, creating packs for separated children and young people who arrive in the UK with nothing.

Volunteering with us will give you a great sense of fulfilment and will offer you the chance to use your skills in a friendly environment, whilst making a significant difference to the lives of separated children!

KEY INFORMATION ABOUT THE ROLE

Time commitment: Ideally one session every 4-6 weeks to give a sense of engagement and community and to help with team-building, and to ensure the continued delivery of our services.

Location: The Big Yellow Self Storage warehouse near the North Circular Road, London, NW2 7JP. Free parking is available and several buses stop nearby.

Role description: Duties are largely repetitive tasks and include; assembling arrival/sleep packs and preparing the items that go in them e.g. filling lavender pouches, folding T-shirts, filling wash bags etc. Other tasks can include processing incoming goods, replenishing stock, cleaning and sweeping, and removing rubbish and recycling. Task preferences can usually be accommodated.

Health and safety:
Each session is managed by a Pack Leader and there is a qualified FirstAider present at all times. All volunteers must complete a volunteer registration form and read and comply with our policies for safeguarding and child protection and health and safety. A young person consent and health form must be filled in by the parent or carer for any volunteers under the age of 18.

Expenses: Volunteers play a vital role in the delivery of our services. It is important to us that volunteering with us is accessible to all, and that volunteers are not out-of-pocket as a result of expenses they incur when giving their time. We will therefore reimburse reasonable out-of-pocket expenses such as travel, if requested.

About The Separated Child Foundation

Location:

84 Cromwell Road, London, London SW19 8NA, GB

Mission Statement

The Separated Child Foundation offers emotional, social and practical support to separated children and young people who are asylum seekers or refugees in Britain, up to the age of 21. We also engage in educational activities that support their experience in the UK and raise awareness of their needs and encourage positive responses to them.

Description

For a small charity with low overheads we have a big impact on the lives of separated child refugees. In addition to the provision of arrival packs and sleep packs for newly arriving separated children, we also offer Club Class which is a weekly educational, social and cultural programme for up to 30 separated young people aged 14-18 that helps young refugees to improve their English and settle into the UK, and supports their wellbeing. We also give separated children a voice through projects that enable and empower them to tell their stories and to reflect on their experiences, needs and hopes.
