Crisis Text Line’s Mental Health Changemakers is a powerful series dedicated to raising awareness about mental health advocacy in diverse communities. Join us as one of our incredible volunteers who are making a difference in the lives of our texters, and passionately advocating for better mental health every day.

As a Crisis Text Line changemaker, you can actively provide support to people struggling with anxiety, depression, bullying, self-harm, and other difficult situations affecting their mental health. What’s best about this opportunity is that it is fully remote, which means you can be a mental health changemaker for someone from the comfort of your own couch!

Crisis Text Line provides free, confidential, 24/7, text-message-based support for people in crisis in English and Spanish. Our service is powered by volunteer Crisis Counselors who have received our training and are equipped to support others in their moments of need through active listening techniques, de-escalation strategies, and empathy.

Volunteering at Crisis Text Line is a significant and rewarding experience. As you learn how to empathize with people’s unique struggles through collaborative problem solving, you may find yourself developing new skills in communication and self-awareness that can benefit both your personal relationships and professional life while making a positive impact in the lives of others.

  • Our online, self-paced training is approximately 30 hours over 2 weeks. We ask that you volunteer 200 hours, and suggest 4 hours over the course of one year. Breaks are encouraged, your wellbeing matters!
  • All volunteers must successfully complete a background check. Additionally, volunteers must possess a laptop computer and have reliable internet access.
