Do you live near the Valley Center or Escondido area? Are you a natural leader who is passionate about food recovery and the environment? Then you can become a Valley Center ProduceGood Pick Boss! **Training and equipment will be provided by ProduceGood.

40% of all food goes to waste, and 1 in 4 people in San Diego County is food insecure. Join other volunteers of all ages to glean (pick) fruit in backyard orchards for people in need. Together, we will help address the problem of hunger and waste in one sweet step.

Enjoy a fragrant morning gleaning fruit trees at various residential Valley Center groves from 9am - 12pm as the Pick Boss! You will be responsible for being the event leader- assisting new volunteers when needed, communicating with the property owner, and then delivering all picked produce directly to one of ProduceGood's over 50 partner agencies that will distribute that food to their local community in need.

If you would like to become a Pick Boss, please reach out to Resource Lead, Shannon, at producegood.shannon@gmail.com . You must attend 2 fruit picking shifts in order to qualify to become a Pick Boss.

We're a food recovery organization but not a traditional one. We go to the source of surplus produce - backyard orchards, farms, farmers' markets, and grocery stores - to recover the excess and transport it to food pantries, shelters, and other organizations that help food-insecure San Diegans.
