WHAT an APDC VOLUNTEER DOES: The Asian Pacific Development Center (APDC) Adult Education Program offers enrolled students private, one-hour tutoring sessions with an APDC volunteer (you!). Our students need the opportunity outside of class to get one-on-one help from a tutor with the material they study in class.

WHAT APDC NEEDS FROM YOU: APDC Adult Education is recruiting volunteer math tutors. While APDC serves the immigrant and refugee community in Aurora and surrounding areas, some of our students are community members who grew up in the U.S. Students in our Adult Basic Education (ABE)/Adult Secondary Education (ASE) classes study to pass the GED, which is a high school equivalency exam. The math part of ABE/ASE class focuses on the following topics: arithmetic operations, fractions, decimals, percents, ratios, prealgebra, and basic algebra and geometry. If you would enjoy volunteering with our adult students to help them understand these topics, please let us know. Our main need is for volunteers to work one-on-one with students in math, but we sometimes need classroom assistants as well.

COMMITMENT: All volunteers will be required to do some online training and observe other tutors. We ask that virtual volunteers commit to the duration (or remainder of) one of our 13 week trimesters. Tutors choose regular time slots and maintain that schedule for the duration of the trimester (13 weeks). Days, afternoons, evenings, and weekends are all in demand. These appointments are held over Zoom.

CONTACT: HeatherMorgan@apdc.org. Application, interview, and background check are required.
