Receive a crash course on the causes and solutions to homelessness through LA Family Housing and gain new skills in planning and organization, reliability and empathy through volunteering.
Why: We know you want to start volunteering with people experiencing homelessness right away! But trust us - we all have a lot to learn. And we want to set you up to make the biggest impact you can. ! And providing incorrect support (however well-intentioned) can worsen the problem you're trying to solve. We want to set you up to make the biggest impact you can!
Who: L.A. Family Housing (LAFH) works to help families transition out of homelessness and poverty through a continuum of housing enriched with supportive services. Founded in 1983, LAFH served more than 2,500 people living in poverty this past year through its multiple housing and supportive service programs, and has served over 100,000 people since its inception.
What to Expect:
You'll get a crash course in the causes of and solutions to homelessness as well as how to utilize trauma-informed care when interacting with people transitioning out of homelessness. You'll leave armed with more knowledge and better able to make a real difference!

What's Required:
Computer and access to Zoom
Cameras must be on so we can confirm your active participation
Ages 16+
You only need to sign up for one shift, as it is the same presentation each session.

Mission Statement
L.A. Family Housing (LAFH) works to help families transition out of homelessness and poverty through a continuum of housing enriched with supportive services. Founded in 1983, LAFH served more than 2,500 people living in poverty this past year through its multiple housing and supportive service programs, and has served over 100,000 people since its inception. In total LAFH owns and operates 21 properties, including three homeless shelters and 18 permanent rental properties. LAFH provides temporary housing, including the Sydney Irmas Transitional Living Center, for families who require additional time for achieving sufficient independence to secure permanent housing. These transitional living programs offer: * Six Months to Two Years of Transitional Housing * Food Services * Case Management * Mandatory Savings Program * Full Range of On-Site Supportive Services
