National Public Lands Day: BioBlitz in Everglades National Park

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

The volunteers will be posted at tables to aid with questions, maps and problems or questions about using the iNaturalist app. They can help visitors identify it themselves and/or the app and other users can id them as well. The locations and sign-ups for the information tables will be announced once the volunteers application is accepted.

More on the event itself:

Visitors of any age and ability could come into the park and help us identify flora and fauna in the park by taking images of them and posting them on INaturlaist. This data then would help and be used by our park biologists for their data and research on our organisms in the park. Visitors can do this while spending time in the park on our trails, on Ranger led tours, on boat tours, tram tours, etc. It’s an all-day event so we can have visitors join at any time or spend as much time in the park as they’d like while visiting with us. There will be an information table at the Ernest Coe Visitors Center, Royal Palm Visitors Center, Gulf Coast Visitors Center and other locations in the park, this way the visitors can meet with the volunteers and NPS staff to go over how to do the BioBlitz, what/where and how to find organisms and how to do so safely. This will be a place to come to for any issues or questions. Visitors will meet up at this location when they are done to show their collected data.
