Help us open and keep a food pantry open at Sea Mar South Park!

The doctors and clinicians at SeaMar in South Park would like to open a food pantry to provide healthy food staples for the clients they see who can improve their health through dietary changes.

Food will be provided by White Center Food Bank, and we need 2-4 people who are willing to check in weekly or every other week to restock the pantry with healthy & nutritious food.

This is a great opportunity for a couple, a family, or a few friends who would like to work together in a volunteer role that is flexible and that you can make your own! We just ask that you commit to stocking the pantry at least every other week during our business hours of Monday 9am-5pm, Tuesday 8am-3pm, or Wednesday-Friday 8am-4pm.

If you can provide your Driver's license, and do not have any driving offences on your record, you are able to drive our food bank vehicles. We also have hand trucks and crates to make loading and delivering food easier. If you are unwilling to provide your license or have driving offences on your record, we can discuss using your own vehicle!

Description

White Center Food Bank provides food access to Washington state residents for no fee. COVID-19 severely altered our daily operations, resulting in a need for more volunteers to support our work than we had needed before (by pivoting to outside food distribution). We continue to operate in our new, pandemic-safe model, and see the high need from our community continue.

The White Center Food Bank began in the mid-1970’s as an emergency response to assist struggling families and individuals in the greater White Center and Highline areas during a major economic downturn. Much like today, many in the community were facing difficult economic conditions that left them in need of food resources.

In 1982 the White Center Emergency Food Association was formally incorporated and is today known as the White Center Food Bank, serving 57,989 individuals (19,569 families) in 2017. Current programs include daytime and seniors-only food distributions; a mobile food bank for seniors and disabled clients; a Baby Pantry for diapers and formula; culturally relevant food grown onsite; cultural foods buying program; and grocery rescue. Intake services are provided in five languages, and all written materials are provided in six languages.
