Assist local neighbors in accessing groceries that they need! Volunteers will pick up pre-packed bags of food for 2-5 customers, assist in customizing the delivery of food based on customer request, and deliver food directly to customers. The pandemic has increased how many customers are receiving a home delivery of customers, so your help supports the food bank in ensuring those deliveries of food get to each person when we say they will! Because of the pandemic, we ask that you knock on the door or ring the doorbell, step back, and wait for the person to answer their door for a minute. If they don't answer, we ask that you call to let them know the delivery is on their doorstep. Most customers know food is coming, but because of COVID concerns, or mobility issues, will not answer the door. Volunteers may use food bank vehicles for delivery or their own. If you use our vehicles, we ask for a copy of your driver's licence, and you cannot have any driving offences on your record.

Serve Local Families! Support our Baby Pantry by volunteering once a month to pick up baby pantry orders from our partner, Westside Baby, and organize them on site at the White Center Food Bank. This will happen once a month on Friday, and can occur sometime between noon and 4pm. If you want to volunteer more than once a month, please reach out, we have more opportunities available! Interested in food justice? Volunteers know what goes on behind the scenes at the White Center Food Bank, and are critical to ensuring that our community is able to access the food they need. For many of our customers, this includes baby formula and diapers. Support is also needed weekly or biweekly to unpack formula, kids books and magazines, and restock these items while keeping track of expiration dates and any potential recalls. At the White Center Food Bank, we serve over 6,000 individuals each month. Because of the pandemic, we are serving more people than ever before. In one day we saw 20 new families, which we typically see in a week. We are serving families again that we haven't seen in 7 years as people continue to face unemployment or a lack of childcare. Help us achieve our mission to minimize hunger while nourishing community, nurturing self-reliance and embracing our rich cultural diversity!

Help support hungry families by assisting the food bank in the Grocery Rescue Program. Each week volunteers pick up much needed fresh produce, dairy, deli, frozen and bakery items from local grocery stores to be distributed in the community. Our mission is to minimize hunger while nourishing community, nurturing self-reliance and embracing our rich cultural diversity. Grocery Rescue substitute volunteers are needed weekday mornings 8:30am or 9am-noon. Highest need right now are volunteers interested in working as regular substitutes to be "on call" to fill in when another volunteer has to be absent. You might get a call or email a few weeks out, or the night before help is needed. This role works great for people who have varied schedules! We ask that substitutes are willing and able to drive our Ford Transit vans. We ask that any volunteer interested in this role is able to commit to three months of service at the start, since this is a program that requires some training. We will provide you with training (food handlers certificate, using a pallet jack, and route training). No prior experience necessary!
