Assist local neighbors in accessing groceries that they need! Volunteers will pick up pre-packed bags of food for 2-5 customers, assist in customizing the delivery of food based on customer request, and deliver food directly to customers.

The pandemic has increased how many customers are receiving a home delivery of customers, so your help supports the food bank in ensuring those deliveries of food get to each person when we say they will!

Because of the pandemic, we ask that you knock on the door or ring the doorbell, step back, and wait for the person to answer their door for a minute. If they don't answer, we ask that you call to let them know the delivery is on their doorstep. Most customers know food is coming, but because of COVID concerns, or mobility issues, will not answer the door.

Volunteers may use food bank vehicles for delivery or their own. If you use our vehicles, we ask for a copy of your driver's licence, and you cannot have any driving offences on your record.

Description

White Center Food Bank provides food access to Washington state residents for no fee. COVID-19 severely altered our daily operations, resulting in a need for more volunteers to support our work than we had needed before (by pivoting to outside food distribution). We continue to operate in our new, pandemic-safe model, and see the high need from our community continue.

The White Center Food Bank began in the mid-1970’s as an emergency response to assist struggling families and individuals in the greater White Center and Highline areas during a major economic downturn. Much like today, many in the community were facing difficult economic conditions that left them in need of food resources.

In 1982 the White Center Emergency Food Association was formally incorporated and is today known as the White Center Food Bank, serving 57,989 individuals (19,569 families) in 2017. Current programs include daytime and seniors-only food distributions; a mobile food bank for seniors and disabled clients; a Baby Pantry for diapers and formula; culturally relevant food grown onsite; cultural foods buying program; and grocery rescue. Intake services are provided in five languages, and all written materials are provided in six languages.
