The San Diego Chapter of the Foundation Fighting Blindness will be hosting our 15th Annual San Diego VisionWalk, a 5k walk fundraiser to benefit the Foundation's mission to find treatments and cures for blinding retinal degenerative diseases.

This event is a family-friendly community event to celebrate the amazing fundraising efforts of our San Diego VisionWalk teams and chapter members! It will be a morning filled with music, games, refreshments, and a 5k walk through the park.

Register to volunteer at https://forms.gle/sWLW4fJjZQyFRmw79.

We will need volunteers to help with the following areas:

SET UP (6 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.)
Setting up pop-up tents, tables and chairs in our main event area. This activity will involve a lot of lifting and moving. We will also need help setting up and organizing supplies for our registration tables and refreshment booth.

PARKING & REGISTRATION (8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.)
We will need volunteers to help direct guests on where to park and guide them to our main event area. Volunteers will also be needed to help check-in and register guests, collect donations, and hand out t-shirts to qualifying donors.

SILENT AUCTION (8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.)
Volunteers will need to monitor the auction area and make sure that displays look nice and that people are raising bids by the correct dollar amount. Volunteers should also assist guests if they need help placing bids or reading the description of the auction package.

REFRESHMENT & GAMES (8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.)
Volunteers will be needed to organize and set up snacks at our refreshment booth. Other volunteers will be needed to help oversee the carnival games and activities for kids and families.

WALK ROUTE MONITORS (9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.)
We will need volunteers to be placed along our 5k walk route to ensure our walkers are staying safe and on the right walk path! We would also love for these volunteers to cheer and encourage our walkers as they pass by to amp up the enthusiasm and excitement during the walk! Certain spots along the walk route may also need to help pass out water.

CLEAN UP (11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.)
Help throw away trash and debris to ensure that the event area is as clean as when we arrived. Volunteers will also be needed to break down tables, chairs, and tents to get them ready to be picked up.

Volunteer t-shirts and snacks will be provided to all our amazing volunteers!

Thank you so much for your help and support!

Mission Statement

The urgent mission of the Foundation Fighting Blindness is to drive the research that will provide preventions, treatments, and cures for people affected by retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, Usher syndrome, and the entire spectrum of retinal degenerative diseases.

Description

The Foundation Fighting Blindness is dedicated to funding innovative research to find preventions, treatments, and cures for inherited retinal degenerative diseases. More than 10 million Americans are affected by blinding retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa (RP), macular degeneration, and Usher syndrome. Since its founding in 1971, the Foundation has raised over $700 million in support of our urgent mission.

To achieve our mission, we fund pioneering research in a comprehensive program that includes cell biology, drug delivery, clinical and preclinical study, genetics, gene therapy, retinal cell transplantation, retinal implants, and pharmaceutical and nutritional therapies. The Foundation has funded thousands of research studies at hundreds of prominent institutions worldwide.
