The Los Angeles Chapter of the Foundation Fighting Blindness will be hosting our 17th Annual Los Angeles VisionWalk, a 5k walk fundraiser to benefit the Foundation's mission to find treatments and cures for blinding retinal degenerative diseases. This event is a family-friendly community event to celebrate the amazing fundraising efforts of our Los Angeles VisionWalk teams and chapter members! It will be a morning filled with music, games, refreshments, and a 5k walk along the beach. Register to volunteer at https://forms.office.com/r/J8R9ECwHbv We will need volunteers to help with the following areas: SET UP Setting up pop-up tents, tables and chairs in our main event area. This activity will involve a lot of lifting and moving. We will also need help setting up and organizing supplies for our registration tables and refreshment booth. WALKER REGISTRATION This area is where the arriving walkers go to check in, register and turn in donations when they first arrive at VisionWalk. Volunteers will greet participants, handle donations, ensure each walker has signed the Walk Waiver, and hand out T-shirt tickets (if applicable). Volunteers in this position stay seated for the most part. T-SHIRT TABLE Walkers who raise $100 or more will be eligible to receive an event T-shirt the day of the walk. Eligible walkers will be given a ticket when they turn in their money at the Registration area. The walker will then go to the T-Shirt Table, turn in his or her ticket, and receive a T-shirt. REFRESHMENT AREA The main task of these volunteers is to set up the refreshment display and keep the area stocked with refreshment for the walkers before, during, and after the VisionWalk. Ideally, the refreshment area will be self-serve, and the volunteers' job will be to replenish the stock as needed. Volunteers will be required to lift to restock the water and food. KID'S ZONE These volunteers will assist the face painter or other entertainers with the children, assist with the Braille arts & crafts projects and monitor the bounce house and carnival/lawn games. This includes keeping children entertained while they wait for their turn and setting up the games. Bounce house monitors must be over 16. Other Kids' Zone monitors have no age restrictions. WALK ROUTE MONITOR Route monitor volunteers (typically in pairs) will be stationed along the VisionWalk route to direct our walkers along the correct path. Volunteers should cheer the walkers on as they pass their station. Route monitors should bring cell phones to call in any problems to event staff. This shift involves a lot of walking and standing. CLEAN UP Help throw away trash and debris to ensure that the event area is as clean as when we arrived. Volunteers will also be needed to break down tables, chairs, and tents to get them ready to be picked up. Volunteer t-shirts and snacks will be provided to all our amazing volunteers! Thank you so much for your help and support!
