Volunteers help us get the gardens and rooms of the conservatory looking great before we open for the day (at 10am).
Volunteers will:
- weed, trim, or deadhead herbaceous plants
- assist in preparation of plants for floral displays
- move and space plants within displays
- clean up fallen leaves and perform plant grooming tasks as instructed
- assist in maintaining clean, safe, & organized work and display areas
- assist with the preparation and maintenance of potting soil, plants, flowers, and bulbs
- dispose of compostable plant material, recycle potting soil
- assist with Japanese Garden morning pathway raking and leaf clearing (seasonally)

Como Park Zoo and Conservatory welcomes 1.7 million visitors from around the world - the second biggest tourist attraction in Minnesota. The Como Park Zoo and Conservatory is open 365 days; 10am-6pm from April-September and 10am-4pm from October -March . Admission to both the Como Zoo and Marjorie McNeely Conservatory is always free and a voluntary donation is appreciated. - This role is a 7:30-10am commitment and volunteers serve in the role year round. We ask new volunteers to commitment to a minimum of 6months (longer is better).
- Practice safe, appropriate, and respectful behavior; have working knowledge of general plant care; gardening experience preferred; be able to tolerate heat in conservatory; work independently; ability to lift (up to 25lb), stand, kneel, bend, etc.
