The Corps of Engineers is looking for a few good volunteers! Do you have administrative and/or every day office skills? Then the Corps has a job for you. The Corps needs volunteers to assist project managers with environmental resource permitting in the Fort Myers, Tampa, Miami, Live Oak and Jacksonville, Florida field offices.

The Regulatory Division reviews and evaluates building permits using Federal Regulations and Guidelines for public interest and environmental sustainability.

The volunteer positions offer you a chance to be of service to your community, the environment and your country and gain experience and knowledge of the Corps Regulatory Program, with available training and very flexible work hours. The volunteer positions do not provide hospital plans or retirement systems but are covered for on-the-job injuries. The Corps of Engineers is an equal opportunity employer, which also applies to volunteers.

Extremely flexible work hours. Anytime between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, excluding Federal holidays. The volunteers may assist with any of the following project manager duties: * Administrative and clerical duties, filing, data entry, etc. * Coordinates meetings with applicants, environmental consultants and other state and federal agencies, * Records and evaluates reported possible permit violations and unauthorized impacts to resources, including impacts to threatened and endangered species and important aquatic, natural and cultural resources, * Prepare accurate and concise documentation, reports and correspondence including jurisdictional determinations, interagency coordination and consultation letters, public notices, environmental assessments and permit instruments with enforceable conditions.

As the volunteer becomes familiar with office procedures there is the potential to develop advanced understanding of the Corps' regulatory program.

These positions offer a great opportunity to work directly with environmental professionals making permitting decisions in your community. The subject matter is technical in nature. The complexity of the training and work expected will depend on the volunteer's ability and desire to learn.

The volunteer positions do not provide hospital plans or retirement systems but are covered for on-the-job injuries.
