Grief Support Volunteer Opportunities

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care

We are looking for kind, caring, and compassionate people like you to support our programs for grief and healing! There are opportunities throughout the year, which may include:

  • Co-facilitating evening grief support groups
  • Greeting evening support group participants
  • Volunteering at our weekend camps for grieving families in summer and fall
  • Serving as an ambassador at community events
  • Administrative support roles

You could make a difference in the lives of children and adults by creating a safe space for them to learn healthy ways to process and cope with grief. Some children's activities include crafts, games, books and multimedia, and volunteers work in pairs. Prior grief support experience is helpful but not required.

Trainings will cover all of these roles. Upcoming training dates are available upon request. Trainings usually take place on a Saturday in early August and a Saturday in late January or early February.

Solace House is a Community Center for Grief and Healing, designed to be a nurturing place to guide children and adults through the difficult time following a death, whether sudden and unexpected or anticipated. It also hosts grief support camps for kids and families, as well as other grief support activities and events throughout the Kansas City metro and surrounding counties. For more information on its services, visit https://www.kchospice.org/solace-house/

By providing both hospice and palliative care, we are able to assist patients and their loved ones at any time following a serious diagnosis. Hospice is provided when the focus is primarily on comfort; palliative care is provided when it is too early for hospice care and the patient may be seeking treatment aimed at cure.
