Ongoing home-based volunteer opportunities working and servicing Medicare beneficiaries. Occasionally
in office for training and other program related activities.Adult volunteers for the PA MEDI (Pa. Medicare Education and Decision Insight Program).

Opportunities.
* Administrative support: Retrieving phone messages, medication lists and completing outreach calls.

* Counseling opportunities available: Working with Medicare beneficiaries to assist in choosing
a Medicare Plan, PDP (Prescription Drug Plan) and make referrals to other agencies as needed.

Training is provided for all opportunities. For certified Medicare counselors, completion of online modules is required. Working in office follows CDC and local guidelines and regulations regarding COVId-19.

Mission Statement

Pennsylvania Medicare Education and Decision Insight (PA MEDI) offers free Medicare counseling to older Pennsylvanians. PA MEDI Counselors are specially trained to answer beneficiary questions and provide unbiased, easy-to-understand information about Medicare, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Medicare Advantage Plans, PDP (Prescription Drug Plans), Medicaid, and Long-Term Care Insurance. PA MEDI Counselors do not sell Medicare products but rather offer current, unbiased Medicare education to help beneficiaries make the most informed choices about their Medicare options.

Description

Pennsylvania's State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) PA MEDI provides one-on-one unbiased and personalized education and assistance in choosing a Medicare health plan (Original Medicare, Medigap, Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plans (PDP) for eligible Medicare beneficiaries, their families and caregivers. PA MEDI makes referrals to other agencies, assists with appeals, answers questions on Medicare Parts A, B, C, D and enrollment in Parts C and D.

Diakon Community Services manages the PA MEDI Program under a contract with the Area Agency on Aging for Luzerne and Wyoming counties with funding from the PA Department of Aging
