ARCHIVES & LIBRARY ASSISTANCE

Bring and build your skills to help share, digitize, or organize materials in the library and archives, assisting in research requests and reference desk.

Archives & Library Assistants volunteer on a project basis such as digitizing a photo or paper collection, creating a finding aid or collection guide, cataloging books, or any number of other projects relating to OMM’s library, archives, film, and photo collections. A&L Assistants may also assistant in fulfilling research requests such as identifying, pulling and preparing materials for researchers.

Project schedules are organized with the Volunteer Coordinator to fit both volunteer and staff schedules. These are usually defined as a set time/day each week. Those seeking to volunteer as part of a school credit internship can be given additional support to meet school requirements.

Starting in 2024 with the Museum’s grand opening, the library and media room, housed off the Museum’s main gallery, will be open to the public during open hours. A&L Assistants can then sign up to shift volunteer at the reference desk to welcome and assist library and media room visitors and researchers. Volunteer may continue working on open A&L projects or given additional projects during reference desk shift.

All volunteers receive a general orientation. Archives & Library volunteers will be given additional specialized training relating to projects and reference desk support.

Mission Statement

Oregon Military Museum inspires and educates visitors about Oregon's military heritage and legacy, including the National Guard, the state's early militia, and all branches of the Armed Forces.

Description

Oregon Military Museum is located at the Oregon National Guard’s Camp Withycombe in Clackamas, OR. Part of the Oregon Military Department, the museum closed in 2008 and has since moved into its new site and currently in preparation of offering new exhibits, programs, and services once opened to the public. OMM opened its two historic buildings to the public in May 2022, and continues to open the Historic Park each year, May-November. OMM will have its Grand Opening of the completed Museum and its exhibits, archives, and library in 2024. As we prepare for opening, OMM is excited to offer training, appreciation, and other perks to new volunteers who can help make the Museum available and welcome to all visitors.
