When visitors approach the carousel during the busy summer season, the beautiful native flower garden is usually what they see first. Help us keep it looking its best! We are looking for help with general maintenance of the garden, watering, weeding, etc. Whether you have 20 minutes or 2 hours, there is always something to be done. We are open 7 days a week.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Carousel of Happiness, a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation, is to promote happiness, well-being, and service to others through stories and experiences.

Description

The Carousel of Happiness is Nederland Colorado’s magical menagerie featuring 56 whimsical, hand-carved animals on a restored 1910 Looff carousel, turning to the music of a 1913 Wurlitzer band organ.

The Carousel of Happiness is...
  • A 501(c)3 nonprofit organization
  • A unique, participatory exhibit of folk art
  • A living piece of American history
  • A destination for people with disabilities
  • A demonstration building for green, energy-saving technologies
  • An outpost of simple joy for young and old!

The Carousel has 36 colorful, hand-carved animals to ride, and 25 smaller animals keeping them company. Tiny fairies fly overhead and hide in the shadows.

Upstairs there is an observation window, a small party room, and a Do-It-Yourself Puppet Theatre housed in a lovingly restored anitque band organ facade.

Stories abound here, and our professional sound-recording booth, the Story Catcher, will help you keep those stories alive. For a $10 suggested donation, your story is recorded on a USB drive.

The Carousel Gift Shop sells carousel-themed tees, hats, sweatshirts, and memoribilia, including books written by our frounder, operators and members of the carousel family.
