Become a Community Driver, Lend an Older Adult a Ride!
ORGANIZATION: Village in the Ville
Please visit the new page to apply.
Volunteer with Village in the Ville to help aging adults in the Clintonville, Beechwold, and University District areas attend appointments, get groceries, and the like.
Though many of our older neighbors no longer drive themselves, they still have plenty of places they need to go. By lending them a ride, you're helping to ensure that our aging neighbors have safe access to our community. Ensuring safe access to our community is fundamental for ensuring that our older neighbors can age-in-place - that is, in their homes and our community - for as long as possible! So, please don't underestimate the value of providing a service that's as simple as lending a ride.
If you're someone who enjoys going for drives while helping to make a difference in your community, then this opportunity is for you! Not only will you get the satisfaction of making a difference by ensuring an older adult has safe access to our community, but the satisfaction of friendship as well. That's because you'll have the opportunity to get to know those to whom you're lending a ride!
To become a community driver, all you need is:
- A Valid Driver's License
- Proof of Driver's Insurance
- To Be at Least 25 Years Old
Trips usually take 1 to 3 hours. Though, you don't have to stay for the whole time. You can always drop off and pick up, running your own errands in the meantime.
Covid-19 has made lending and receiving rides especially complicated. We recognize this and wish to value the safety of our drivers and riders while also honoring the needs of our riders to attend medical appointments, get groceries, etc. That is why we ask that our riders and drivers wear masks and social distance whenever possible during the service. Of course, if you don't feel comfortable, we have other volunteer opportunities available.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to cultivate a community rooted in connectedness that celebrates diversity and promotes reciprocal volunteer assistance among older adults.
Description
Although we are a program of the Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resource Center, we are a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Our story;
A small group of friends noticed the need to support aging folks in Clintonville. They founded Village in the Ville in 2015 after learning about Villages, which are communities that help older folks overcome the challenges of aging.
Our organization has grown to about 100 members and 70 active volunteers. We have helped dozens of our members stay in their homes, rather than moving into nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
We provide services for our members that become harder with age. Our opportunities include, but are not limited to, helping members with; yard care, grocery shopping, transportation to their doctors' appointments, home repair, meal preparation, technology assistance, and snow removal during the winter.
Weekly, we hold events for Village members. Recently, events have included visiting parks, museums, restaurants, pumpkin patches, and shops (in masks, with social distancing). Also, we frequently offer virtual yoga, tai chi, computer proficiency, and art classes, along with regular virtual book club meetings and coffee hours. Frequently, we invite experts to speak to members about various topics, like social justice and health.
