Volunteer Online: Help Ukrainians Learn English

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: ENGin

A year after russia’s ruthless invasion, Ukrainians need your help more than ever. At ENGin, hundreds of Ukrainian youth are waiting for an English conversation partner: to help them break through the language barrier, to settle in a new home or prepare for a new job, or just to provide a distraction from the horrors of war.

Can you spare 1 hour a week and make a difference in a young Ukrainian's life?

Volunteering with ENGin is a flexible and unique opportunity to make a difference without leaving your home. We’ll pair you up with a student to video chat each week at times that are convenient for you. No teaching experience or knowledge of Ukrainian is required. All of our students have a basic knowledge of English, and we also provide detailed session plans for you to use.

Here's what three ENGin volunteers say about their experience.

"This is an amazing organization that helps students learn English in Ukraine just by having conversations. It is a great experience, and I look forward to talking to my buddy every week. It is a great way to learn about Ukrainian culture and see a unique perspective."

"This program has been, I think, life-changing for both of us. I really consider her more like my daughter right now. That's how close we have become!"

"I'm so glad that I got this experience and was able to make a new friend. Teaching someone English, or a language you are fluent in is easy for anyone to do. By putting in a small amount of time, I'm able to make a huge impact on my student."

About ENGin

Location:

42 Highview Avenue #4, Stamford, CT 06907, US

Mission Statement

ENGin connects Ukrainians with volunteers worldwide for online English-language conversation, creating a safe, authentic space for them to break the language barrier, discover a new culture, and find emotional support. These meaningful connections not only empower individuals but also drive Ukraine’s social and economic development by fostering intercultural understanding and building stronger, more connected communities.

Description

ENGin matches English-fluent volunteers from around the world with Ukrainian learners for weekly online conversation practice. Volunteers share their culture and perspectives while helping their learner become more confident speaking English.

ENGin volunteers build mutually beneficial relationships with learners that cultivate growth and understanding, break down borders, and ultimately foster a more interconnected, empathetic world. We provide ample training and resources to get you started, and our team is always available to answer questions or help resolve challenges.

Since launching in 2020, ENGin has connected over 26,000 Ukrainians with over 24,000 volunteers. 99% of our learners report breaking the language barrier after 3 months of participation in our program, and 79% of our participants form lasting friendships. We welcome hundreds of new volunteers every month.
