The Youth Achievement Program is looking for volunteers to assist our learners with achieving their goal, obtaining a High School Equivalency Credential. You would be assisting learners with improving their skills in reading, language, and writing. Lesson planning is done by the Program Associate. Our curriculums have teacher guides that give explanations and how-to on lesson delivery. You will also go through a brief training to assist in preparation. Mission Statement

The Durham Literacy Center is the leading independent organization dedicated to providing free literacy services to adults and out-of-school youth in Durham County. Our mission is to empower Durham County residents who want to improve their lives and the lives of their families by improving their literacy skills.


The DLC provides direct individual and small group instruction in reading, writing, English language, and computer skills to adults and families seeking to improve their education and/or move toward economic self-suffiency. We partner with a number of social service, health, education, and workforce-related organizations and agencies to meet the diverse needs of the Durham community.
