Sickle Cell Medical Advocacy Inc. is a start up nonprofit doing great work in the community. We train motivated members within the community to become Medical Advocates who will then help patients with Sickle Cell disease when they go to the emergency room or the hospital, where these patients often get poor care and mistreatment, as this disease is extremely painful but affects mostly people of color. We accompany them virtually to prevent mistreatment and we advocate for better care while they are vulnerable and in pain.

1)We desperately need: someone with knowledge managing Monday.com.

And/OR someone with knowledge of using excel.

We also need help in the following areas, and you will receive training on how to do so.

-Patients will need to be connected with an advocate, so you will contact advocates to connect them

-These responsibilities don’t all happen daily but you need to do these things when they come up

Mission Statement

Sickle Cell Medical Advocacy Inc. navigates transformative healthcare for sickle cell patients following national guidelines for urgent medical intervention, promoting faster healing and shorter hospitalizations.

Description

Sickle Cell Medical Advocacy Inc. Is a national nonprofit primarily supporting the sickle cell disease (SCD) community through virtual educational resources and online support groups. Our two main programs are:1) SCD Healthcare Navigation Certification is an online program where we rigorously train motivated volunteers to become certified SCD Navigators. Following our intensive training based on NIH and ASH guidelines and expert SCD management practices, these students become HIPAA-certified and adept in virtual communication with ER/hospital providers.2) Health Navigation Assistance - SCD Navigators assist patients during pain crises, acting as an informed resource between patients and healthcare professionals. Our healthcare navigators support sickle cell patients who register with SCMA continuously. We ensure every SCD patient can access a skilled healthcare navigator during emergency visits, enhancing their care and treatment outcomes.
