The Salvation Army recognizes the critical importance of staying hydrated during the hot, Arizona summer, and YOU are invited to help provide much-needed water and essential hygiene supplies to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in our community.

What kind of volunteer support does our Summer Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) Team need?
Please read below for details regarding our current volunteer needs:

VOLUNTEER DRIVERS:

  • Volunteers who are interested in and have the ability to complete and pass the written Salvation Army driving test. (Please note: You must also possess a current AZ driver's license for this role).
  • Volunteer drivers should be willing and have the availability to drive the Salvation Army canteen truck to two, designated parks during the days when the temperature is forecasted to reach 102 degrees or higher (and between the hours of 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm), to distribute water, snacks and other basic needs to those experiencing homelessness. (Please note: The canteen truck is fully air-conditioned and volunteers will be distributing supplies from inside the truck for both comfort and safety).
COMMUNITY OUTREACH VOLUNTEERS:
  • Volunteers are needed daily (for a two hour period of time), to accompany the driver, help load the canteen truck with supplies; and, assist with supply distribution.

Description

The Salvation Army provides services to the Tucson community by way of temporary shelter, transitional housing, case management, job training, and GED Training. We hand out food boxes, water and clothing to those in need.

We also have youth programs such as day and summer camps and after school programs similar to Boy and Girl Scouts.

During the holidays, we provide meals for community members on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. We also host the Christmas Angel Giving Tree and Adopt-a-Family program for those in need at Christmas.
