Role
NGA's Hyperlocal Advice project provides a hands-on advice and referral service for people in the Newington Green area. Key to this service and what distinguishes it from others is the investment of time in following up with advice seekers, forming relationships with support providers, and the continuous development and refinement of our in-house service directory on the basis of unexpected advice needs, feedback from advice-seekers, and relationships with service providers.
This role is for volunteers who will interact directly with advice seekers (in writing and by phone). The volunteer will be engaged with an advice-seeker from the time their query is received until they have been matched with a resource that will help them resolve their issue. Along the way, there are several opportunities to seek feedback and many time where compassion, curiosity, and empathy may be essential.
Skills
For this role, you should have excellent people skills, be able to access your empathy and compassion for people who may be upset, anxious, and angry. You should be able to be quick and responsible in responding to advice-seeker communications, organised in keeping good records, ready to learn new processes, have good IT skills, and be willing to undergo a DBS check (required for anyone who may be dealing with children or vulnerable adults).
