WHO WE ARE:
Lantern is grounded in the mission to champion the independence and well-being of New Yorkers who are impacted by or threatened with homelessness. Our objective is to make sure that our residents can find and maintain stable housing through emergency shelter and supportive housing. Our on-site social services bring residents and staff together to create opportunities for personal recovery, wellness and growth. We have 16 supportive housing buildings located in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx, and three shelters based in Manhattan and Queens.

We are currently looking for an administrative volunteer to assist Lantern's staff in administrative work and office management at Clover Hall. Responsibilities include filing, data entry, scanning/making copies, shredding, organizing office space and archiving client charts.

Lantern provides housing and comprehensive supportive services for individuals and families affected by homelessness, mental health concerns and chronic illness, as well as young adults who have aged out of foster care. To ensure the ongoing safety of populations served, our government funders require all volunteers to undergo a background check. For in-person volunteers, they must undergo a background check and fingerprinting. Lantern Community Services champions the independence and well-being of New Yorkers who have been impacted by or threatened with homelessness, as well as those who have aged out of foster care.

Description

Lantern is home to more than 1,400 formerly homeless people who live in our 15 apartment buildings across New York City. We pioneered services for people living with HIV, and we are one of the largest providers for young adults who have aged out of foster care. We give people more than just basic support and a place to live, prioritizing interventions with scientifically proven results. We’ve grown our programs a lot recently, working creatively with our existing resources, but now we need volunteer power to bring more programs to more of our clients!
