Are you interested in ethical volunteering opportunities in Tanzania? If so, the Families and Futures Coalition of Tanzania (FFCT) is the place for you! FFCT is a project of The Small Things - a US-based, registered nonprofit working on the ground in Tanzania - and is a coalition of organisations working together to share resources in order to keep families together and transform the quality of care for vulnerable children in Tanzania.

FFCT invites skilled volunteers from all over the world to come and see our impact first-hand while volunteering with our After School Enrichment Program. This program aims to provide on-site extension and enrichment education opportunities for students after school.

Skills that we are looking for in particular include:

  • STEM (STEAM)
  • The Arts (singing, skill with a musical instrument, dancing)
  • Languages (German, French, Italian, Spanish, Sign Language)
  • Martial Arts (kickboxing, taekwondo)
  • Technology/Coding
  • Vocational Skills - cooking, sewing, carpentry, pottery
  • Gardening

If you have a specific area of expertise or interest that isn't listed, please get in touch as we may be able to customise a volunteer role to suit. In order to best support the needs of the students at Silverleaf Academy, volunteers must commit to a minimum of fourweeks to be considered for this program.

We provide for you:

  • Pre-departure support, airport pick-up and drop off
  • Free weekly Swahili classes
  • Orientation
  • 24/7 in-country support
  • Meals and housekeeping
  • Free social impact tour

*Excellent activity add-ons are also available, including safaris, many more social impact tours, and a Maasai village tour.

Our volunteers are expected to fundraise or contribute $600/month, which includes $400/month toward your accommodation and $200/month toward our programs. We will support your fundraising efforts, so please get in touch to ask us how. oggu@familiesandfutures.org

About The Small Things

Location:

14D Stonegate Circle, (volunteering site in Tanzania), Branford, CT 06405, US

Mission Statement

We focus on keeping children in families wherever possible, and providing loving care for them in small family-style homes, only when absolutely necessary.

Description

The Small Things is the culmination of decades of dedication from a number of hardworking women. It all began with Martha Ayo (known as Mama Pendo, or Mama Love), who has been caring for orphaned children in the Nkoaranga community for over 30 years. In 2010, Bekka Ross Russell founded The Small Things, to realize their shared vision of comprehensive, holistic support to keep families together and return children from care when possible, and family-style homes for children who cannot be reunified. Since 2015, Rehema Mussa has served as managing director, fulfilling our goal of having all programs managed and led by Tanzanian staff.
