RED CROSS DUTY OFFICERS:

Duty Officers play a very important role when the American Red Cross provides assistance to those affected by disasters. They are the first and single point of contact from emergency service organizations when the request for assistance is made. They assess the situation and deploy the most appropriate resources to support efforts such as initial casework and recovery planning, canteen services, sheltering and disaster assessment.

• Coordinate with local authorities to dispatch local Red Cross responders to disaster events, particularly house and apartment building fires
• Support in-field teams and Red Cross personnel
• Virtual position can be done from home -- requires reliable telephone and Internet connectivity

Once trained, you sign-up for "on call" hours based on your schedule. Respond only during your window of availability. Most volunteers sign-up for 1-2 "on call" shifts/week. Each shift only 4 hours.
