Position: Career Coach Support
Program Area: Refugee Career Pathways (RCP)
Location: IRCO, 10301 NE Glisan St, Portland, OR 97220 and offsite
Schedule: Flexible, tasks can be done remotely
Position Summary: The volunteer for this position will work with the Refugees Career Pathway Coaches
to assist refugees in searching for jobs or building careers. Some of the help includes researching job
boards on the internet, writing resumes, and, at times, coaching through the interview process. You will be
expected to do Intense one-on-one coaching to build relevant skills, and work on a job search skills
development plan in the client's different educational fields is expected.
Since RCP began, selected highly skilled professionals have benefited from an intense one-on-one
personal executive coaching program. Professionals partner with senior-level career coaches to build a
job search skills development plan which focuses on MBA-level business research skills and knowledge.
Such areas as total compensation, benefits, salary studies, annual reports, business journals are
researched so that the refugee professional understands the US market and can be confident that his
knowledge and experience brings value to a company.
Resumes are enhanced so that each company and school attended in a client’s home country is
described allowing a US recruiter to easily understand the relevance and value of the home country
experience.
Most importantly, adaptive teaching is the focus for interviewing skills. Clients have the option to study
YouTube interview videos targeted to their industries, work through exercises tailored to each job ad, and
practice with mock interviews before a "real" job interview occurs.
Qualifications: Requires someone who understands and can train on content for Microsoft Stream, can
work independently, with attention to detail, and has effective communication skills.
Time Commitment: 2-3 months, variable weekly time commitment.
