Position: RESJ FACES In-Home Tutoring (Pre-K - 5 th Grade) Program Area: RESJ FACES (Racial Equity and Social Justice Family and Community Engagement Services) Location: In person at the homes of families from selected Portland Public Elementary Schools. Schedule: Must have availability during evenings and after-school hours. Volunteers must commit to working a minimum of 1-2 hours per week for at least 8 weeks (about 2 months). Program Description: RESJ FACES programming provides racial equity and social justice-centered, community minded, culturally dynamic, multilingual/multicultural support to African, Asian, Pacific Islander and Slavic Immigrant and Refugee families, caregivers, and students. Position Summary: The RESJ FACES program seeks dedicated, responsible, and culturally mindful volunteers to support Pre-K through 5th grade Immigrant and Refugee students with academic and culturally specific activities at selected schools in the Portland Public School District. An interview, orientation and background check are required. Qualifications: Have a passion for helping students achieve their goals. Commitment to working with diverse populations and non-native English speakers. Fluency in any of the following languages is helpful, but not a requirement: Vietnamese, Somali, Maay-Maay, Tongan or Russian language. Provide academic support to Pre K-5th grade students in math and literacy. Interest in participating in "in-home tutoring" and or "group activities" that support family connection, cultural identity, wellness and wellbeing and cultural sharing within the larger school community. Ability to build good relationships with students and parents to pursue the students' academic goals. Position: After-School Volunteer at PPS Middle Schools Program Area: Race Equity and Social Justice (RESJ) Middle School Mentoring (MSM) Location: In-person after-school program at George, Roseway Heights, Harrison Park, and Lane Middle Schools. Schedule: After-school program groups meet once or twice per week, Monday through Thursday, from approximately 3:30PM to 5:30PM Program Description: RESJ program works with immigrant and refugee K-12 students at Portland Public School District. We serve three multi-dynamic communities: African-Immigrant, Pacific Islander, and Slavic by providing culturally specific after-school programming in four middle schools: George, Roseway Heights, Harrison Park, and Lane. Position Summary: Our after-school groups provide culturally specific academic support and tutoring to immigrant and refugee students. Volunteers support our culturally specific after-school programs by assisting our bilingual bicultural Academic Advocates in the classroom and on occasional field trips. Volunteers help students with homework, math, science, and literacy lessons, as well as with group games and activities. Qualifications: No foreign language experience is required, but those with a strong sense of compassion and a good sense of humor are encouraged to apply. In addition, some advanced English writing, math, and science skills are preferable for tutoring at the high school level. Time Commitment: Volunteers will work from January to June (winter and spring terms). Position: Mill Park Elementary SUN Extended Day Program Volunteer Program Area: Schools Uniting Neighborhoods (SUN Community Schools) Location: Mill Park Elementary - 1900 SE 177th Ave, Portland, OR 97216 Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 3:30pm - 5:30pm. Program Description: Mill Park SUN programs serve to support Mill Park Elementary students and families through academic partnerships, extended day programming, and wrap around services. Volunteers at Mill Park are integral to the well-being of our community. Whether it is leading reading groups, running a chess club, or serving food and drink at one of our community events, IRCO volunteers partnered with Mill Park make direct connections with students, families, and staff for positive community outcomes. Current Mill Park SUN program operations include SUN School Extended Day Programming, Mill Park Food Pantry. Position Summary: Mill Park’s SUN Extended Day Program provides enrichment and academic services to enrolled Mill Park Elementary students. Volunteers will be involved with facilitating small-groups and classes through activities such as Open Gym, Cooking, Arts and Crafts and many more! Mill Park volunteers will regularly engage in face-to-face communication with students and/or parents. Volunteers work under a SUN Site Manager. Volunteers may facilitate groups and classes depending on program needs. Volunteers may help students with academics, math, science, and literacy lessons, as well as with group games and activities. Our school is looking for volunteers that are culturally diverse and responsive, with a strong capacity to listen and grow with our students. Volunteers should have an interest in early childhood education. Qualifications High School degree or equivalent is preferred. Experience working in the field may be considered as equivalent. Bilingual/bicultural applicants are encouraged to apply. Enthusiastic attitude and passion for education. Sensitivity and ability to relate to people from diverse lifestyles, socioeconomic levels, and cultures. Those with interest in cooking instruction must provide up-to-date Food Handler’s Certification. Time Commitment: Volunteers facilitating groups will be expected to commit at least 8 weeks per term, with a 1 day/week minimum requirement of attendance. Senior Services programming is a bridge between our refugee/immigrant elders and mainstream society connecting elders to resources in the community and encouraging independence. The congregate mealsite is a popular program with elders as it serves to diminish social isolation while providing culturally specific nutrition. The Meal-Site Assistant should have enthusiasm, patience and resourcefulness for working with elder refugee populations. As the program has just resumed in person congregate meals, the volunteer should be flexible and patient as the program resumes and gains momentum. Volunteer duties include assisting staff in preparing meals, serving coffee/tea, helping to set up/clean up the community room, and assisting staff with program details as they come up. A willingness to occasionally drive to pick up food from vendors is also appreciated.

Position: Sorting and Organizing Assistant/ New Home Set-up Program Area: New Beginnings Market and Refugee Resettlement and Placement Location: 7911 NE 33rd Drive, unit 290 Portland OR, 97211 Schedule: Shifts are Monday-Friday, between 9am-5pm. We are looking for volunteers who can commit to volunteering 2-4 hours per week, in this time range. Some New Home Set-ups may take longer. Program Description: At IRCO, our mission is to welcome, serve, and empower refugees, immigrants, and people across cultures and generations to reach their full potential. We imagine a future where refugees and immigrants belong, our staff are nurtured, and all communities thrive. The New Beginnings Market primarily assists IRCO's resettlement division in providing household and personal care goods to clients during the relocation process. The Refugee Resettlement & Placement program helps welcome and orient newcomers to life in Portland and The United States. The R&P team assists refugees in finding long-term housing and gainful employment, and connects them to culturally specific services, opportunities, and community. The goal is for refugees to exit the program with the tools and knowledge to be self-sufficient in their new home. Position Summary: New Beginnings Market is a warehouse marketplace where refugees and other new arrivals can come to shop with dignity. New and gently used furniture, clothing, and household and personal care items are donated to us and we arrange and organize the store into an easy to navigate shopping experience. IRCO clients then shop for the items they need in their new homes - free of charge. The Market also facilitates the relocation of new arrivals into their long-term housing, by providing and delivering all furniture and items. Volunteers will be expected to: Fold and sort clothing inventory Count and track new inventory Help tidy and organize the warehouse Assist with new arrival relocation, as needed Help staff in locating items needed (checklist provided) Help staff with loading the truck with furniture and other items to be delivered Help staff with unloading the truck at the new long-term housing Must complete provided warehouse safety and lifting training. Staff help will always be provided for lifting large or heavy items. Time Commitment: We are looking for volunteers that can commit to a year of regular service. Requirements: Must be 18 or older Must pass background check Must complete provided warehouse safety and lifting training. Staff help will always be provided for lifting large or heavy items. Safety equipment, such as back braces, gloves, and Hi Vis vests will be provided, if the volunteer wishes to use them. Training on the equipment will also be provided. Must wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothing, layers are recommended.
