ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross - National Headquarters

The American Red Cross is conducting a groundbreaking pilot study funded by the FDA which could lead to significant change in blood donor eligibility for men who have sex with men. You can help support this effort by volunteering as an ADVANCE Study Recruiter, volunteering one shift per week, every other week through July 2022 to help recruit study participants.

This position supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) Biomedical Services (BIO) team. This opportunity requires participation in in-person activities and/or will perform work in a Red Cross facility. Position will report to the American Red Cross Biomedical building in Pasadena, CA The ADVANCE Study Recruiter provides excellent and enthusiastic customer service and information to increase participation in the study. The study is focused on evaluating alternatives to the FDA's blood donor deferral policy for men who have sex with men (MSM). Learn more about the study at advancestudy.org

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the recruitment of participants for the study in the community
  • Explain the process as necessary and support the prospective participant in making a donation appointment
  • Ensure participants have relevant information and that questions are answered appropriately while creating a favorable impression of the ADVANCE study.
  • Learn and share the Red Cross story, including the mission, vision, and values
  • Model excellent customer service behaviors.
Qualifications

All required:

  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and submission of vaccine status and supporting documentation in Volunteer Connection.
    Willingness to carry vaccination card to work assignments.
  • Must be 18+
  • Ability to display the utmost professionalism and communication skills
  • Extremely comfortable working with people from diverse communities and backgrounds
  • Ability to understand technology needed for position
  • Ability to explain/teach technology to donors and fellow volunteers
  • Ability to regularly commit to schedule, arrive punctually and adapt to a change driven culture

NOTE: Required to meet 18 or over age requirements to take temperatures and perform certain disinfecting tasks.
