ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross - National Headquarters

  • Purpose This position supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) department. This is a 100% virtual (volunteer-from-home) opportunity. It will specifically support the Long-Term Recovery (LTR) unit with the management of Recovery Services doctrine and accompanying resources.
  • Responsibilities

    * Proofread and provide basic edits and updates to Recovery doctrine and accompanying Recovery toolkit, job tools, and training materials (found on the Red Cross Exchange, EDGE, etc.).
    * Help ensure the field, EDGE and the Exchange have most current versions of doctrine, training and job tools.
    * Help coordinate stakeholder review of Recovery doctrine and collect/organize feedback.
    * Help coordinate stakeholder review of doctrine from outside Recovery Services and collect/organize feedback.
    * Make recommendations on major doctrine edits based on changes to Recovery Services programs, changes to other units’ doctrine, or feedback from stakeholders.
    * Provide answers and explanations on doctrine in plain language to stakeholder - may answer questions from the field received through a shared e-mail inbox.
    * May represent Recovery Services on other units’ doctrine review process.
    * Participate in appropriate Recovery Services and Long-Term Recovery meetings.

  • Qualifications

    Required:

    -Reliable access to resources needed to volunteer 100% virtually
    -Writing, copy editing, and proofreading experience
    -Familiarity with Disaster Cycle Services Recovery Services programs either steady-state in a region or on Disaster Response Operations (DRO)
    -Comfortable using plain English to explain complex concepts and processes
    -Good communication and interpersonal skills
    -Highly organized and detail-oriented
    -Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
    -Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
    -Effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines

    Preferred:

    -Experience working with technical documents and/or doctrine
