Hartford Hospital is in need of pet therapy teams to provide caring and uplifting interactions with students and staff at the Grace Webb School in Cheshire. Teams must have a pet therapy certification to apply.
The Grace Webb School at Cheshire, a satellite program of the Institute of Living's Grace Webb School in Hartford, provides special education and related services to students in grades K-8. Students who have emotional issues which affect their educational progress, are referred by their local education agency (LEA). Student functioning ranges from slightly impaired to gifted levels. Shifts for pet therapy teams are available Tuesday, Thursday or Friday and there is some flexibility with time of day. Teams are requested to be available to visit once a week for approximately one hour.
Volunteer Services staff will work with owners to determine if this is the best placement for the team based on interest, availability and comfort level of the team. Other placement options are available at Hartford Hospital including visiting admitted patients, out-patient cancer centers (Hartford, Avon or Manchester), or the Institute of Living adult, adolescent or children's programs.
