Grounds Crew Volunteers will assist with maintaining the historic landscape that makes up Cockspur Island. This includes the grounds that surround Fort Pulaski, the historic dike system, trail systems, entrance station, and other important sites around the island. Grounds Crew Volunteers are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) that is appropriate for the job, as outlined in the job hazard analyses (JHA) provided for each assigned task. These documents will outline the duties, possible risks, safe practices, tools, and other information necessary to perform the task and mitigate accidents and injuries. This position will require you to work outdoors for long periods of time, sometimes in the heat, cold, rain, or mud.


The park will provide all necessary training and protective equipment for safely operating riding mowers and other machinery. Typically, grounds care volunteers begin early in the day (6:30-7:00 am) to avoid hot afternoon heat and to be able to work inside Fort Pulaski without disturbing visitors.


Commitment: Minimum of one 4-hour shift per week (or more if volunteer desires).


Training requirements: Park Safety Orientation, necessary machinery operation, & park volunteer orientation will be provided by park staff.


Must be able to pass a background check for this position. Valid Driver's License is required.
