The War in the Pacific NHP Park Beautification volunteer will assist park staff in maintaining park grounds by picking up litter, picking up green waste, shoveling or removing rocks and gravel, using landscaping equipment to maintain park grounds and painting in predetermined sections of park units. Physical activities would include hiking, walking in uneven surfaces, bending and lifting objects no heavier than 10-20 lb, and using landscaping equipment or hand tools to maintain the grounds at park sites. Working outdoors in an average temperature of 98 degrees Fahrenheit and relative humidity of 75 - 80%.

It is the expectation of our Volunteers-in-Parks to:

  • To follow the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Government of Guam Public Health and Social Services guidance while we are still in the global COVID-19 pandemic. Which would include: social distancing (6 feet) should be maintained, wear a cloth face covering when closer than six feet, wash hands with soap and water regularly for a minimum of 20 seconds, and use a 60% or higher alcohol-based hand sanitizer when water and soap are not available.
  • Listen to and abide by safety regulations and perform tasks that are within their physical capability.
  • Prevent heat related illnesses by keeping hydrated, wearing sunscreen and other protective apparel or accessories.
  • Wear personal protective equipment such as eye protection, coveralls, apron, closed toed shoes, latex and cloth gloves, to protect oneself from flying hazards and other hazardous infections materials.
  • Ensure to properly dispose of glass or other sharp metals in buckets provided to volunteers, glass and sharp metals are not to be put in plastic bags.
  • Sort recyclable materials and other debris for proper disposal.
  • Load and unload tools, equipment, or materials.
