ORGANIZATION: National Park Service
Please visit the new page to apply.
Are you self-motivated, looking for variety and interested in interacting with visitors outside in a natural setting? Apply for a position based out of the Parkway Information Cabin milepost 102.4, on the Natchez Trace Parkway, Ridgeland, MS. For information about the Parkway please visit www.nps.gov/natr.
Volunteers will staff the Parkway Information Cabin sometimes and other times they will meet the visitors where they are by roving to nearby popular locations known for scenic beauty and wildlife viewing and providing informal interpretation when appropriate. They may also have the opportunity to patrol, either by foot or bicycle, the paved Chisha Foka Trail that runs through the town of Ridgeland, offering even more great visitor interaction. Just north of Parkway Information Cabin is the largest reservoir in Mississippi and volunteers are able to post up at either a beautiful overview or at a swamp site that houses juvenile alligators and other reptiles.
RV Hosts: In exchange for 32 hours per week (24 hours each if a couple), the volunteer (VIP) will receive a private RV site with full hook-ups, if needed. We require a three-month commitment (and occasionally a two-month commitment for VIPs with previous Natchez Trace Parkway VC experience).
Local volunteers: A commitment of a minimum of two days per month.
Nearby amenities: Ridgeland is just outside Jackson, MS, which is the largest town in Mississippi and has a wide selection of stores, great restaurants, doctors, dentists, and any other amenities you may need. It also offers opportunities to explore during time off the greater area, museums, galleries, and other outdoor recreation opportunities.
***Volunteer Vaccine Attestation Requirement*** Volunteers whose service requires their regular presence in NPS buildings or government vehicles must complete a Certification of Vaccination form. If they have NOT attested to being fully vaccinated, they must also possess and present a negative COVID-19 test result from within the 3 days immediately prior to the date of entry. They must also maintain completed form (and test result, if necessary) on their person for the duration of their volunteer term and present it to the volunteer manager or volunteer supervisor, as needed. They must also comply with all public health protocols in place at the Natchez Trace Parkway.
