ORGANIZATION: SUNDAY LUNCHBOX

Welcome Volunteers,

Sunday Lunchbox supports Austin families facing food insecurity by providing healthy and delicious meals for kids. We support local Texas farmers and small businesses while providing nourishing meals for our children.

The Produce Manager represents our overall mission to use produce that is always fresh, in-season, and organic. This position requires an ongoing commitment of about 4 hours each week.

Please note: Food deliveries are Sundays, so produce pick-ups may be on Sunday mornings or receiving produce delivery at the north Austin location (Spicewood Springs and 183 North).

Volunteer Duties:

  • Community research to find sources of local/organic produce.
  • Ensure we have weekly in-season produce available for our families by working with one partner farm or collecting several to serve our needs.
  • Communication with farms, negotiating prices, and logistics.
  • Facilitate streamlined gathering and redistribution of produce from local farms to our families, which may mean:
  • Produce pick-ups on Sunday mornings OR
  • Receiving produce delivery on Sundays at the north Austin location.
  • Report to the executive director.
  • ~4 hours/week.

Mission Statement

Sunday Lunchbox is a 501(c)3 organization improving access to healthy, local food for Austin families. Our mission is to provide nutritious and community inspired food for those most underserved by our food system in Austin. . We believe healthy food is a right, not a privilege.

Description

We’re being creative, to get your kids eating healthy and loving it!

Our Lunchbox Family Program is our longest-standing and core program here at Sunday Lunchbox. Families register for our Lunchbox Family program and receive weekly access to Sunday Lunchbox’s menu of minimally processed, locally sourced products at no cost. These products include fresh produce from local farms as well as shelf stable products and gluten/dairy free baked goods, all containing local produce.

Sunday Lunchbox is able to provide local produce and locally sourced meals by combining our food rescue efforts (Bumps & Bruises program!), our amazingly dedicated volunteer base, and a focus on innovation to produce nourishing and community inspired foods that kids love. Thanks to our wide base of volunteers and community partners, we’re able to deliver the food directly to families and remove barriers of access to those systemically underserved.
