Assisteo Hospice Volunteer Program - making friends & creating smiles

Are you a military Veteran looking to encourage other Veterans?

Brian Hetzer here, Volunteer Coordinator for Assisteo Hospice, a preferred Veteran’s hospice in the greater Phoenix area. I am a Veteran myself (USN 1985-1991). I’ve seen the impact one Veteran can make in another Veteran’s life. Many of our Veteran patients spend much of their days alone and could really use a friend. You could be that friend. We will train you to make the most of your visits, which are typically 1-2x/week, one hour each.

Hospice provides vital care for people on their 'end of life' journey, and this is done best by using a team of people to help meet the needs of our patients. Doctors, nurses, aids, social workers, chaplains, admin support and volunteers all play a key role in providing quality care. Not only do our patient care volunteers make a tremendous difference in the lives of our patients, but our volunteers receive so much as well from the time spent with their patients.

Our Veterans to Veterans Support team consists of military Veterans who want to provide encouragement for another Veteran on their 'end of life' journey. There's a special connection that happens when Veterans connect with other Veterans. What does that look like? We call these 'socialization and companionship' visits:
  • sharing stories
  • playing games
  • doing activities
  • talking about life, family, etc.

You are doing much more than just visiting, you are creating opportunities for another Veteran to feel loved and appreciated.

Assisteo Hospice is a Veteran preferred hospice, receiving many of our patients directly from the VA Hospital. In fact, over half of our patients are U.S. Military Veterans. We love the opportunity to not only provide great care for all our patients, including our Veterans, but also to honor those who served in a special way through a variety of different Veteran support programs we provide to patients and their families.

If helping us serve those who have served sounds of interest to you, I'd like to work out a day/time to connect on the phone to start. I can answer questions, share more details, talk about our on-boarding process, etc.

Thank you for considering being a vital part of the Assisteo Hospice team.
