ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

These volunteer positions are being recruited for the Tofte and Gunflint Ranger Districts located on the eastern half of the Superior National Forest. Volunteers will be based out of either Tofte or Grand Marais, Minnesota. Both towns are located on the shore of Lake Superior, the world's largest freshwater lake! Volunteers work alongside seasoned Wilderness Rangers performing a variety of duties in the backcountry of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). Volunteers travel by canoe and camp in the BWCAW for up to 8 days at a time. Some of the trainings provided include: canoe/water safety, cross-cut saw, First Aid & CPR, defensive driving, etc. The work is arduous and often performed in inclement conditions including heat, cold, rain and biting insects.
