The 40 Prado Warming Center opens between November 1st-March 31st when the weather forecast includes rain or temperatures below 38* F. Volunteers are especially helpful on these nights, as we open up 40 Prado to more people to stay warm and dry throughout the night.
Shifts available: 6:00pm - midnight, 11:45 pm - 6 am, or a complete overnight shift from 8:00pm - 6:00am.
Volunteers assist with the evening shift, set up cots, help clients check in and get settled and warm for the night, supervise sleeping areas, and help prepare the shelter for the next day. Volunteers can bring a book or work to keep busy while supervising sleeping clients. These shifts are a great opportunity for college students who have course required hours to complete.
On days when the Warming Center is open, a call for volunteers will go out through email and on social media. Submit a Volunteer Application here to be notified: https://capslo.org/volunteer-application/40 Prado is currently following strict Covid protocols, and volunteers are required to be vaccinated. Please stay home if you do not feel well or have been exposed to anyone with Covid symptoms or a positive test. Please err on the side of caution to protect yourselves and others.
