Purpose:
This position supports the Regional Disaster Cycle Services department.
Save lives and prevent injuries by providing free education to community members by working with paid and volunteer staff and following program guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

The Preparedness Division provides appropriate preparedness programming within a community to assist community members to prepare for disasters and other emergencies.

This position is responsible for the tasks involved to implement the preparedness program including:

  1. Support the annual preparedness goals, Regional Disaster Officer (RDO) objectives, and regional/chapter plan for preparedness programming through participation in meetings, projects, and local preparedness activities
  2. Execute assigned projects and local preparedness activities according to the activities you are trained in: Hands-Only CPR, Ready Rating or Be Red Cross Ready Presentations
  3. Complete tasks such as implementing preparedness activities, meeting with partners to build relationships, conducting inventory, and procuring or receiving necessary preparedness supplies

Qualifications:
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and submission of vaccine status and supporting documentation in Volunteer Connection if participating in in-person activities and/or performing work in a Red Cross facility.
  • Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups and individuals, required
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, required
  • Demonstrated ability to read, understand, and review program guidelines and tools, required
  • Experience or comfort public speaking, required

  • Everyone's Welcome (Required)
  • Red Cross Volunteer Orientation

Complete all online/in-person training and review all relevant information for the Community Preparedness Education Program you are supporting (Hands-Only CPR, Ready Rating or Be Red Cross Ready Presentations). Review all preparedness program materials and guidance posted on the Exchange in the Preparedness Toolkit.

Time Commitment: a Year
