Position Title: One-on-One Tech Helper

Supervisor : Violet Rogers-Stultz, Volunteer Coordinator, and Jack Baur, Adult Services Senior Librarian

Applicant Type: "Tech-savvy" individuals (expert skills not required). We are looking for a volunteer who is willing and comfortable finding technology-related answers and solutions. Please let us know if you feel like an expert in any program or device.

Position description and functions: Under the supervision of the hosting Librarian, provide basic tech assistance for library patrons, including email set-up, smartphone basics, web searches, browser issues, printing issues, and other common technology issues that require a great deal of patience, a friendly and compassionate demeanor, and a desire to assist patrons that are not confident with modern tech. This could include one-on-one help researching tech solutions.

Location and Time Commitment: Initial shifts are available: Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the 2nd Saturday monthly, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Training: An hour of training and orientation prior to the first tech help session with the AS Sr. Librarian.

Location: Tigard Library

Volunteer Benefits: Providing a much-needed service to fellow community members struggling with modern tech.

Community Needs Met: Technology is ever-evolving and can be hard to keep up with, especially if not used frequently. Patrons who don’t have a lot of experience with technology might not know where to start learning about a new device. Sometimes, it’s good to have someone look at a technology problem with you and offer some advice. The Technology Assistance Docent will help community members feel more comfortable with their devices. Volunteers will help solve issues patrons might not be equipped to solve or educate patrons on current technology.
