Position Title: Holds Wall Auditor Supervisor : Violet Rogers-Stultz, Volunteer Coordinator, and Jaime Hutchinson, Circulation Supervisor Applicant Type: Adult Minimum requirements: · Age 18 years or older · Reliable and punctual · Strict attention to detail · Able to sort alphabetically and numerically · Able to squat, kneel, bend, lift, use step stool, stretch, and handle books repeatedly · Able to work independently on tasks and follow directions · Able to communicate with staff in person, by phone, and via email · Able to read a computer screen Key Responsibilities: · Auditing the holds wall and making sure all the materials are alphabetized correctly by the patron's last name and then the first name. · If time permits and space is available, shelve recently pulled holds into the holds wall. Training: 1-hour orientation session covering library volunteer expectations, including a tour of the facility, sign-in and badging process, and introduction to staff. Followed by an assessment of alphabetization & numerical ordering and then training on shelving with circulation staff. Then, there are two buddy shifts with an assigned library assistant. Returning volunteers (out of service longer than 3 months) will require a brief half-hour retraining session with a supervisor. Location and Time Commitment: 2-hour shift once a week at the Tigard Public Library - Shifts are daily from 11:30 to 1:30 or Noon to 2pm.

Training: 1-hour orientation session covering library volunteer expectations, including a tour of the facility, sign-in and badging process, and introduction to staff. Followed by an assessment of alphabetization & numerical ordering and then training on shelving with circulation staff. Then, two buddy shifts with an assigned Library assistant. Returning volunteers (out of service longer than 3 months) will require a brief half-hour retraining session with their supervisor. Time Commitment : A minimum commitment of two hours per week and an average of eight total hours per month is requested, with a minimum commitment of six months. Volunteer and Community Benefits: Shelver volunteers play a vital role in ensuring our collection is accessible to patrons. In addition to facilitating the movement of materials, but also inspect and remove damaged items from circulation for repair. Volunteering in this role gives them valuable hands-on experience in library operations and with the Dewey Decimal System. Both library staff and patrons alike highly value their contributions.

Position Title: One-on-One Tech Helper Supervisor : Violet Rogers-Stultz, Volunteer Coordinator, and Jack Baur, Adult Services Senior Librarian Applicant Type: "Tech-savvy" individuals (expert skills not required). We are looking for a volunteer who is willing and comfortable finding technology-related answers and solutions. Please let us know if you feel like an expert in any program or device. Position description and functions: Under the supervision of the hosting Librarian, provide basic tech assistance for library patrons, including email set-up, smartphone basics, web searches, browser issues, printing issues, and other common technology issues that require a great deal of patience, a friendly and compassionate demeanor, and a desire to assist patrons that are not confident with modern tech. This could include one-on-one help researching tech solutions. Location and Time Commitment: Initial shifts are available: Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the 2nd Saturday monthly, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Training: An hour of training and orientation prior to the first tech help session with the AS Sr. Librarian. Location: Tigard Library Volunteer Benefits: Providing a much-needed service to fellow community members struggling with modern tech. Community Needs Met: Technology is ever-evolving and can be hard to keep up with, especially if not used frequently. Patrons who don’t have a lot of experience with technology might not know where to start learning about a new device. Sometimes, it’s good to have someone look at a technology problem with you and offer some advice. The Technology Assistance Docent will help community members feel more comfortable with their devices. Volunteers will help solve issues patrons might not be equipped to solve or educate patrons on current technology.

Minimum Qualifications: · Must be at least 18 years old. · Excellent organizational skills. · Donation Processing Assistant will need to be able to bend, twist, and lift boxes up to 40 pounds. · Able to discern between usable and unusable items and be willing to handle materials that might be dirty. Key Responsibilities may include: · Assessing donated materials to determine their status (sellable, usable, donatable, or to discard) · Prepping donations for the Friends of the Library to process · Keeping the Donated Materials section of the library rolling shelves organized. Training: 1-hour orientation and training session covering library volunteer duties and tasks, including tour of facility, check-in and badging process, and introduction to staff. 1-hour training with staff facilitator to review assignment tasks and responsibilities. Location and Time Commitment: 2-hour shift once a week at the Tigard Public Library; minimum 8 hours a month with a commitment of at least six months. Volunteer and Community Benefits: Donation Processing Volunteers will help library teammates and Friends of the Library process donations. Providing a much-needed service while receiving hands-on learning opportunities about library operations and earn both service credit & recommendations about successful completion of a minimum of six months of volunteer service.
