Program Area: Refugee Resettlement & Placement
Location: In-person
Schedule: Position starting at the end of December
Position Summary: Friendship and social connections go a long way in easing a refugee’s transition.
Signing up as a mentor means offering knowledge, networks, and friendship to an individual or family of
arrivals. Mentors may help with transportation, learning everyday tasks like shopping, finding fun
outings, and more.
Use your creativity to help a new refugee family to learn more about their new community. Show them
around town; take them on field trips to local markets and historical places of interest. Teach them to
become familiar using the bus and access local routes easily. As the family learns more about
their community, they will learn independence and feel a sense of familiarity and ownership for their
new home.
Qualifications:
* Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination
* Pass a criminal background check
Time Commitment: 1-3 months

The Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO) is a non-profit organization established in 1976 to serve immigrants and refugees in Portland, Oregon. IRCO assists individuals and families successfully navigate their lives from cradle through career. IRCO provides programs and volunteer opportunities in the following areas:
